Mothers, before and after birth

Qualified pre-natal and post-natal practice, through pregnancy and the months that follow. Adapted to the week you are in, not the trimester in general.

You might recognise this

Pregnancy changes what your body needs, month by month

A standard class with the hard parts removed is not pre-natal yoga. This is built differently.

“My lower back has started to complain.”

The most common thing mothers arrive with, and often the one that responds fastest.

“I can't find a comfortable way to sleep.”

Positions that worked last month stop working this month. There are better ones.

“I want to stay active but I'm afraid of doing harm.”

Reasonable. A qualified teacher who adapts around your doctor's advice removes most of that worry.

“I've had the baby and I don't know where to start.”

Post-natal rebuilding has an order to it. Starting in the wrong place is how people get hurt.

How Poonam works with this

Qualified, and working with your doctor

Poonam holds professional qualifications in both pre-natal and post-natal yoga. She adapts around whatever your doctor has advised, and she will say plainly when something is outside what she should be doing.

Adapted week by weekOne-to-one, so the practice follows your pregnancy rather than a general trimester plan.
Breath you will use in labourStarted early enough that it is second nature by the time it matters.
Afterwards, in the right orderCore and pelvic floor rebuilt gradually, once you have been cleared. Never rushed.
Where to start

Where to begin

Pre-natal and post-natal work is one-to-one, so it can be adapted properly.

What to expect

How it usually goes

Every pregnancy is different, so this is a rough shape rather than a plan.

A conversation before anything elseFirst session

How the pregnancy is going, what your doctor has said, what is uncomfortable, and what you would like to be able to do.

Back and hips, usuallyFirst fortnight

The most common complaints tend to ease within a few sessions. Sleep positions often improve at the same time.

It changes as you doOngoing

What suited month four will not suit month eight. The practice is rewritten as you go, which is why it is one-to-one.

Please talk to your doctor too

Poonam is a qualified pre-natal and post-natal teacher, not a medical professional. She works alongside your doctor's guidance, never instead of it. If you have a complication, bring that advice and she will build around it.

Whatever week you are in, start there

Message Poonam with where you are in your pregnancy, and she will tell you what a first session would look like.
